Position Summary: The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing operations and representing Camp Levine, one of the largest and most successful music day camps in the Mid- Atlantic region. Reporting to the Director of Summer Programs, the Director of Camp Levine will work closely with the Vice President of Music Education, student services, marketing, campus operations and other support services, in managing Camp Levine. This is a full-time position. 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

Program Development

  • With the Director of Summer Programs, review and make necessary improvements to Camp Levine’s structure, schedule, and procedures
  • Continue to develop and assess the department’s teaching materials collection, including selection of music, instruments, sports and games equipment, and supplies related to the yearly camp theme
  • Attend camp fairs and develop strategies for connecting with camp families and for recruiting Teen Apprentices
  • Collaborate with marketing department in the design of promotional materials
  • Track Camp Levine enrollment throughout registration and adjust classes and teacher schedules accordingly
  • Work with Levine campus administration, staff, and partner locations to secure rooms and performance spaces for Camp Levine 
    With the Director of Summer Programs, manage the growth of Camp Levine (sites, partnerships, growth etc)

Supervision of Camp Levine faculty and staff

  • Interview, recruit, and hire seasonal administrative camp staff positions and camp teachers
  • Oversee the Teen Apprentice Program alongside the Director of Summer Programs
  • Supervise and evaluate all Camp Levine faculty and staff
  • Manage administrative duties of Camp Levine faculty and staff, including required background paperwork
  • Create faculty teaching assignments and schedules
  • Arrange necessary training for teaching positions including first aid and safety training
  • During the summer, visit each camp location and work closely with site directors to support the smooth operation of camp throughout each session
  • Substitute for other instructors or staff when necessary

Parent Education and Public Relations

  • Represent Camp Levine’s program to all parents, students, and the community at large
  • Field inquiries and counsel parents on appropriate placement of children as necessary
  • Oversee communications with registered Camp Levine families, including the parent newsletter, parent portal, and handbooks, consulting with the marketing department as appropriate
  • Implement parent education materials regarding musical study at Camp Levine
  • Alongside the Director of Summer Programs, develop activities and materials to aid parents in continuing their children’s musical studies outside the camp and consider ways to expose families to Levine’s additional programs
  • Along with Marketing, help maintain the Camp Levine webpages and oversee the Camp Levine Facebook page

Administrative Departmental Duties

  • Develop and manage the departmental budget including ordering and tracking teaching supplies, submitting expense vouchers, reimbursing faculty, and distributing paychecks
  • Along with Director of Summer Programs, ensure campus locations are up to code for summer camp based on state requirements including Fire Marshal inspection, CPS clearance of faculty, and food handling certification

Qualifications: The ideal candidate should be outgoing and enthusiastic about supporting children, teachers, and staff in a camp setting. The candidate should be prepared to work longer hours in summer to support the camp community. Additional qualifications include:

  • Extensive training and experience working with children
  • Experience working in a supervisory or managerial role in an educational, summer camp, or after-school setting
  • Excellent communication skills with parents
  • Experience with conflict resolution
  • Ability to be flexible and find creative solutions
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Understanding and comfort in maintaining safety protocols
  • Ability to manage budgets and monitor expenses
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and Windows-based computer systems
  • Bachelor’s degree in music, arts administration, or education a plus

Salary Range: $55K – $60K
