The Composition Lab will include a review of practical music theory, ear training, and musicianship skills. Students will develop composition skills such as basic harmony and counterpoint, improvisation, writing for instruments, using music notation software (Noteflight), and using music production software (Soundtrap).
This is a hybrid class – students may attend in person or via Zoom. Students will complete assignments and projects in our online classroom which includes music theory, music notation, and music production software. Students will create a final composition project, which will be performed by students and faculty members in the final class meeting.
This class is an appropriate option for students who have completed Level 3 or higher. Students who have not taken a music theory class at Levine should take an online placement test prior to registering for the class.
