(Ages 6-8; age 6 and 7 in September 2020. Without parent/caregiver.)

This class helps students complete the “journey” from our popular Elementary Music classes to private instrument study, offering older children more structured learning of complex musical ideas, note-reading and basic theory through the exploration of the music and language of different countries and cultures.

The class benefits students who aren’t quite ready for one-on-one private instruction, preparing them adequately with supplemental skills for learning an instrument or developing their voice. It is also intended for students who have recently begun private instrument study, as they benefit from the additional learning and reinforcement of musical skills and concepts. Students develop and perform in multiple disciplines including singing, playing pitched and un-pitched percussion, instruments,* and movement/dance. This course also focuses on student composition and performance. “Visiting Instruments” continue throughout the year.

* Instruments may be purchased through Levine.

Class activities and benefits include:

  • Creation of musical forms

  • Development of rhythmic accuracy
