About Evangelina Meyer:
Evangelina Meyer began studying music at the age of three with violin lessons. At age five, her study of classical piano began at Levine under the instruction of Dr. Hyeweon Gessner, who became a treasured mentor and friend.
“Music allows me to enter a world of my own to expand my ideas and emotions,” says Evangelina. She grew up perched at the piano bench in her living room practicing every day. It was her time to reset after a busy day at school, which allowed her fascination with composers of the Romantic era to flourish. Some of Evangelina’s favorites include Frédéric Chopin and Franz Liszt. She especially enjoyed studying Chopin’s etudes, nocturnes, and preludes, along with Liszt’s concert pieces.
In 2013, Evangelina won first place in the Levine Cogen Concerto Competition. In the Marlin-Engel Solo Competition, she placed second in the Junior Division (2013) and Senior Division (2019), and received an honorable mention in the Intermediate Division (2015). As a member of the Levine Honors Program, as well as a winner of the ME competition, she performed at the Italian and Mexican Embassies in Washington, D.C. and was invited to perform on the Millennium Stage at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts twice (2014 & 2017). Evangelina also performed in master classes taught by renowned musicians Nelita True, Emile Naumoff, and Brian Ganz.
A graduate of Georgetown Visitation Preparatory School, Evangelina was president of her school orchestra and a recipient of the 2020-2021 Georgetown Visitation Instrumentalist of the Year Award. Outside of music, Evangelina rowed with her high school crew team for four years and was a First Honors student throughout her time at Georgetown Visitation. During her summers, she volunteered for the Capital Adaptive Rowing Program, helping to tailor rowing experiences for those with different disabilities. Evangelina is also a volunteer for Bridges to Independence in Arlington, VA, where she delivers furniture and supplies to newly housed families. Evangelina also prepares and delivers lunches to the Carpenter’s Shelter in Alexandria, VA. Looking ahead to college, Evangelina plans to major in International Relations and minor in music at the College of William & Mary.
