Workshop: Rhythms of the African Diaspora Bucket Jam
Sticks/Buckets Provided

Join Dante’ Pope for a workshop exploring the rhythms of the African diaspora. We’ll learn about the influence of the bembe beat, from the continent of Africa to the Caribbean and the Americas. We’ll explore the djembe, cowbell, congas, folk-based percussive instruments, drum set, and more. The musical benefits of participating in an ensemble are innumerable. Through making music together, we’ll hone skills like awareness of blend and balance, accuracy in keeping beat, and attention to detail when reading and playing music. Using provided buckets and sticks, we’ll grow in leadership, self-confidence, and learn how to work as a team. This shared musical experience cuts across language barriers, cultural differences, and socio-economic differences to create community through rhythm!
