Levine Music is honored to welcome Cherine Foty, Senior Associate in International Arbitration at Covington & Burling LLP, and anti-money laundering expert Alexander Georgieff to its Board of Trustees.
Cherine Foty
Levine Music alumna Cherine Foty is a Washington, DC-based attorney and a senior associate in Covington & Burling’s international arbitration group. Cherine’s practice is focused on international commercial and investor-state arbitration. The complex international disputes she regularly handles span across different sectors, including the energy, pharmaceutical, life sciences, mining, construction, luxury goods, and quick-service restaurant industries, as well as disputes involving shareholder, joint venture, share purchase, technology, and trademark agreements. Cherine also handles matters relating to business and human rights, ESG, and corporate social responsibility. She maintains a robust pro bono practice, including cases under Covington’s Kurt Wimmer Media Freedom Pro Bono Initiative and matters before various United Nations bodies.
Cherine is a Member of the ICC Commission on Arbitration and ADR. She is the Global Vice President of the Campaign for Greener Arbitrations, a Board Member of ArbitralWomen, and a Co-Founder of ArabArb. She is also the Advisor for Diversity & Inclusion for Arbitrator Intelligence, on the Steering Committee of the International Institute for Conflict Prevention & Resolution’s Y-ADR, and a member of the Rising Arbitrators Initiative and the American Bar Association, International Law Section. Cherine has been recognized as a Best Lawyers “One to Watch” for France in the field of international arbitration. She speaks five languages and has received High Honors from the Capital Pro Bono Honor Role for her pro bono work.

Alexander Georgieff
Vocalist and opera lover Alexander Georgieff is an ACAMS-certified anti-money laundering and financial crimes specialist. Alex has extensive experience working across the private and NGO sectors, including previous positions at E*Trade, Tempus, and The Henry L. Stimson Center. Additionally, Alex has held a variety of internships across Western and Eastern Europe focused on anti-corruption, including the Institute for Security and Development Policy and the Fair Labor Association in Sweden, the Caucasus Research Resource Centers in Armenia, and Cross Cultural Solutions in Russia, where he helped to organize and lead volunteer programs at orphanages.
Alex received his undergraduate degree from the University of Rochester, with concentrations in History and Russian Studies, earning Summa Cum Laude and Magna Cum Laude respectively. While at Rochester, he served as the President of Off Broadway On Campus, a student-led musical revue and the longest-running musical theatre group at the University of Rochester. Alex went on to receive his Master of Philosophy from the University of Oxford, focusing on Russian and Eastern European Studies. At Oxford, Alex studied US, EU, and Eastern European money laundering laws and regulations and penned his dissertation: “Effective Agencies and Will: The Formation of Anti-Corruption Campaigns in Eastern Europe from 2005-2008.”
