About

1Stop is a Hip-Hop/Soul musical experience exclusively written, produced, and arranged by duo Deacon Izzy and MK Zulu. Last year, 1Stop released their first single, “Day In, Day Out,” which was nominated by the Wammie Awards for “Best Hip-Hop Song.” In the midst of putting the final touches on their debut EP, 1Stop has also established themselves within the educational communities, leading master classes and musical assemblies at schools throughout the entire DMV for the past two years.

Deacon Izzy
Hailing from Gastonia, North Carolina, Isaac ‘Deacon Izzy’ Bell began his musical development in the church and at school. He came to Washington to hone his talents at Howard University. Since then, he has contributed to numerous acts, including Deacon Izzy and The Congregation, DuPont Brass, Mark G. Meadows, and Chrysis Entertainment. Deacon Izzy has received critical acclaim across the region and is a seven-time Wammie Award winner. He recently completed his acting debut as the lead in Signature Theater’s Passing Strange, as well as a sold-out run during their How Sweet It Is: The Men of Soul. Deacon Izzy currently performs extensively throughout the east coast, midwest, and southern regions of the US and is excited to share his music worldwide.

MK Zulu
Jared “MK Zulu” Bailey is a Grammy-nominated, multi-talented musician from Prince George’s County, Maryland. After graduating from Howard University with a Bachelor’s in Music Business, he later received his Master’s in Jazz Performance from Rutgers. Since then, MK has been working as a teaching and performing artist in the DMV through various outlets. MK Zulu has performed at some of the city’s most prominent venues including The Atlas Performing Arts Center, The Howard Theatre, and the John F. Kennedy Performing Arts Center. Thriving in collaboration, he participated in over 25 releases as a contributing performer. MK’s collaboration with composer Carlos Simon for his album, “Requiem for the Enslaved,” was Grammy nominated for Best Contemporary Classical Composition. Meanwhile, his latest solo project, “The Legend EP,” is an energetic package of songs created to motivate others to never give up on their dreams.

A History of Go-Go

Go-Go is the official music of Washington, DC, and a staple in the DMV as well as throughout the world. Explore the history of the genre through interactive songs, chants, dance, and percussion. Go-Go music is a blend of Blues, Jazz, Funk, Rap, and Afro-Latino Percussion. We’ll learn about these influences, the champions of the genre, and how they led to that beautiful Go-Go Swing. This educational performance is led by songwriter, producer, educator, vocalist, rapper and DJ, Deacon Izzy with assistance from Grammy nominated multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, songwriter, and rapper MK Zulu.
