NEW DATE: Saturday, January 27, 2024
Experience the timeless allure of the string quartet in a new light and indulge yourself in an evening of musical innovation as this cherished art form is reinvented through captivating contemporary compositions.
Levine faculty member Andrew Rammon alongside fellow musicians of the 9th Street Quartet set the stage for the 2023-24 performance season with a program of works by living composers, including Arvo Pärt, Philip Glass, Caroline Shaw, and more.
Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door, and free for Levine students.
The 9th Street Quartet is the Quartet-in-Residence for 9th Street Chamber Music – a chamber music performance and education program based in Northern Virginia. Since their formation in 2017, they have dedicated themselves to making chamber music accessible to all, through performance series in intimate venues, and through the 9th Street Chamber Music String Quartet Intensive education program.
The 9th Street Quartet believes that the future of classical music lies in, well, the future! As culture takes a shift towards smaller, more personal, local connections (farm-to-table, local-brewed, hand-crafted), they believe that classical music should be doing the same. Their programs are a blend of the old and the new: new masterpieces paired with old ones, traditional forms in intimate settings, experienced listeners with new concertgoers, and experienced musicians with students.
Matt Richardson, violin
