Katie Lansdale

5 – 5:45 PM | Performance
6 – 7:30 PM | Master Class

Acclaimed violinist Katie Lansdale visits Levine for an interactive performance, discussion, and master class.

Through a vivid array of violin repertoire, students are invited to investigate, participate, and brainstorm. Featured composers range from well-known masters – Telemann, Prokofiev, Bach – to exciting newer voices from many corners of the globe. Students will help create a number of Latin dance rhythms before witnessing Vanacek’s percussive Spanish Rhapsody, and explore Bill Traylor’s folkart, which inspired a piece by Carlos Simon. The session culminates in a performance of Raccoon Talk by Jerod Impichchaachaaha’ Tate, in which listeners create sound effects of the spirits of wild animals and the sound of tribal drums.

Katie Lansdale is a professor of violin at the Hartt School at the University of Hartford and at Boston Conservatory at Berklee. She has performed as a soloist and chamber artist throughout North America, South America, and Europe and as part of numerous concert series, including those of the Phillips Collection, the Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts, and Lincoln Center’s Rose Theater. She has made concerto appearances with the National Symphony, Austin Mozart Orchestra, Baltimore Symphony, Schroeder Classical Orchestra, Cleveland Chamber Symphony, New York Spectrum Orchestra, and the New York Repertory Orchestra.

Founder of the Locrian new music group, Lansdale’s extensive chamber music concerts in New York have ranged from appearances at the Mostly Mozart festival at Lincoln Center with Yo-Yo Ma and Merkin Hall with the Twentieth Centuryists to current annual appearances in Carnegie’s Weill Hall (Festival Chamber Music Society). Lansdale has performed for three decades with the Lions Gate Trio, an internationally acclaimed ensemble.
