Explore your creativity by writing an original musical composition over the course of 8 weeks.
In this class we will study the building blocks of composition including:
- How to use music notation software (Noteflight)
- How to write and develop a musical theme
- How to harmonize a melody with chords
- How to energize a piece of music with rhythm
- How to compose for instruments
- How to structure a composition using musical form
Students’ final projects will be performed at the Composition Musicale, held on Saturday, June 7th from 2-4:30pm (NW DC Campus Lang). https://www.levinemusic.org/event/composition-musicale/
At this event students and faculty members will collaborate to perform and critique student compositions.
Students must be able to play an instrument and be able to read musical notation. No further experience is required.
