Grab your favorite drum and let’s play! Join us each week as we explore the fundamental joy of playing rhythms together. Hand Drum Jam is an experimental performance class that combines various percussion instruments with creative expression and group interaction. Students will develop hand drum skills, techniques, improvisation, and composition through “call and response”, “playing in unison”, phrasing for soloing ideas, and learning “drum breaks” and “cadences.” This is a great opportunity to learn new beats and rhythms to play in drum circles, Levine ensembles, or your own bands. We will perform, compose and arrange music suited for the instrumentation and class size. Such music may include a combination of Afro-Cuban, Brazilian, African, Indian, and Arabic styles. Please bring your favorite drum (congas, frame drums, djembe, doumbek etc.) and experience an abundance of information, music, and fun! Let’s jam!
Please join us if you don’t own a drum. Some percussion instruments will be provided.
All levels welcomed! No formal experience required. Ages: 16 years and older
