The Music Theory and Composition Lab will include a review of practical music theory, ear training, and musicianship skills. Students will develop composition skills such as basic harmony and counterpoint, improvisation, writing for instruments, using music notation software (Noteflight), and using music production software (Soundtrap).

Students will complete assignments and projects in our online classroom which includes music theory, music notation, and music production software. Students will create a final composition project, which will be performed by students and Levine faculty members.

Classes designated Honors are enrichment options suitable for students who participate in or aspire to participate in Levine’s merit programs. Non-merit students are welcome to register for the class.

This class is an appropriate option for students who have completed Music Theory Level 10 or AP Music Theory. Students who have not taken a music theory class at Levine should take a placement test prior to registering for the class.
