These unique chamber group classes are modeled after the small string and wind bands of the various European courts in the 18th Century (the times of Bach, Handel, Haydn, and Mozart). The ensembles usually consist of 5-6 violins and 2-3 cellos and sometimes include woodwind and brass instruments. The classes are designed to help the students develop their note reading and ensemble skills.
Course materials and music are determined by the instrumentation of the enrolled students. We’ll study a wide variety of musical styles from classical to jazz, prepare three concert programs throughout the year, and repeat each program in two performances.
Performances are planned throughout the year.
Please note: An audition is required. Because of the intensity of this program, regular attendance is required. At least one year of private lessons and the ability to read music is required. For string players, skills in vibrato and shifting are not required.
