The Levine String Orchestra Program at Silver Spring provides students aged 6 – 12 with the opportunity to experience ensemble playing in a professional learning environment. Students who have never picked up an instrument and those who have some experience will both have opportunities to learn and grow under the instruction of Levine’s talented faculty members.
The program consists of four levels, select a class below based on your student’s age group to learn more and register!
Beginner I: (Ages 6-10) For students with no playing experience. Throughout the year, students learn the basics of the instrument’s technique (violin, viola, cello, bass) and perform for family and friends at the end of each session. Although students and parents can indicate their instrument of preference, faculty members help choose the student’s instrument during the interview and provide information to parents about renting the assigned instrument.
Beginner II: (Ages 6-10) This ensemble is a continuation of Beginner I Orchestra and focuses on preparing repertoire for performance while developing ensemble skills. Students who did not participate in Levine Orchestra last year are welcome to enroll upon approval.
Sinfonietta I: (Ages 8-12) This ensemble is a continuation of the Beginner Orchestras and focuses on preparing repertoire for performance while developing ensemble skills. Students who did not participate in the Levine Orchestra last year are welcome to enroll upon approval.
Sinfonietta II: (Ages 8-12) This ensemble is a continuation of the Sinfonietta I Orchestra and focuses on preparing repertoire for performance while developing ensemble skills. Students who did not participate in the Levine Orchestra last year are welcome to enroll upon approval.
