Summer Chamber Music Seminar

The Summer Chamber Music Seminar takes a deep dive into the skills, repertoire, and culture of chamber music. We’ll meet daily for four distinct segments: coaching, rehearsal, string chamber orchestra, and a special topics class. In the special topics class, we’ll learn important chamber skills like score study, cueing and communication, and repertoire study. As the end of the week approaches, the time will also include a focus on performance practice and etiquette.

Sample Schedule:
1:00-1:50 PM Coaching/Rehearsal Block 1
2:00-2:50 PM Coaching/Rehearsal Block 2
3:00 PM Large ensemble
4:00 PM Topic class
A placement audition before enrolling is required for all students, including Levine students and those who have attended Strings Camp. The placement audition aids in making repertoire and ensemble assignments. Without an audition, we cannot guarantee group and repertoire assignments will be the best fit. Please use this link to request a placement audition.
Please note: to participate, campers must be enrolled in private study and play at the Suzuki Book 4 level (or equivalent). Sheet music will be sent out in early July so that all campers can prepare their music in advance. Please be sure to practice to make our rehearsals even more fun.
For more information, please contact Dr. Patrick LeStrange, Strings Department Chair, at (202) 686-8000 x1110 or PLeStrange@levinemusic.org.
