Everything we do at Levine is made possible thanks to our generous supporters. Please make a gift to Levine Music to support creating new musical memories together in the new year.

Favorite Moments of 2022

Cogen Concerto Competition Winner

Levine’s Cogen Concerto Competition has been a cornerstone of our calendar for 39 years, but this year was even more special. At our Showcase concert at the THEARC in June, competition winner William Hsieh, piano student of Martin Labazevitch, wowed us all as he performed Bach’s Keyboard Concerto No. 7 in g minor accompanied by a live orchestra of Levine students conducted by Vasily Popov.

Jazz Students Perform at DC JazzFest

DC-JazzFest-2022When our students play out in the community, they get another chance to perfect their playing, but they also get an opportunity to share their love of music with new folks and inspire them to pick up and instrument themselves. In September, our teen Maryland Jazz Band and an adult jazz combo had a blast playing during DC JazzFest at The Wharf.  The teen combo was featured on ABC7!

Band member James Ambrose stated that he was, “Glad to see the crosswalk and everything was stuffed. People couldn’t even move and they wanted to listen to us.”

Music Therapy Camp Returned!

This past summer, music therapy students experienced the joy of summer camp at our MD Campus: Silver Spring. Each day was filled with a variety of fun and engaging music making activities led by Levine’s board-certified music therapists.

The week also provided opportunities for campers to work on nonmusical skills like socialization, communication, and self-expression. Each day, campers engaged in movement experiences, creative expression, music games, and explored instruments like piano, guitar, ukulele, and more.

Gala

Gala-2023bA year would not be complete without our Annual Gala where we celebrate Levine, our unique musical home. This past year was Jeff’s first Levine Gala as President and CEO and he graced us with his musical talents performing in the faculty and staff percussion ensemble.

The evening brings together the Levine community in music and fellowship joined by a shared passion for community music education. Gala proceeds support our scholarship fund and other strategic initiatives.

Since it’s almost 2023, that means our next gala is coming up – learn more about this year’s event taking place on March 12.

Moments of Inspiration

When we think of our favorite moments in music, we often think of the big concert and the standing ovation. But, let’s not forget about the moments that happen offstage. Every day in every Levine studio, someone is learning something new. Maybe we finally hit that note that used to be too high, maybe we perfected that piece that used to be too hard, or maybe we wrote something that no one’s ever heard before. Those moments of inspiration and discovery stay with us for a lifetime.

On behalf of the whole Levine Music family, thank you for making us your musical home. It is only with your help that we can reach our goals and aspirations.
