About

The Washington Musical Pathways Initiative (WMPI) is a talent development program that prepares middle and high school musicians from historically excluded communities in classical music for entrance into competitive collegiate music programs. As a partnership between the DC Youth Orchestra Program, Levine Music, the National Symphony Orchestra, and the Kennedy Center, WMPI champions a collective approach to creating a more diverse and inclusive classical music world.

The United States Army Band “Pershing’s Own” has been the premier musical organization of the U.S. Army since 1922. Through their musical education, continual training, and masterful performance, these outstanding Soldiers truly embody the excellence that is found across America’s Army. There are currently seven official performing ensembles in the unit: The U.S. Army Concert Band, The U.S. Army Ceremonial Band, The U.S. Army Chorus, The U.S. Army Blues, The U.S. Army Band Downrange, The U.S. Army Herald Trumpets, and The U.S. Army Strings.

Today, the musicians of this prestigious unit render musical honors on a regular basis for our Nation’s leaders, foreign dignitaries and heads of state, diplomats, and, of course, our veterans. Pershing’s Own also performs free public concerts throughout the year.
