As part of Levine Music’s 50th Anniversary celebration, we’ve been reflecting on the people and stories that have shaped our community over the years.
Levine alum Alyson Cambridge is an acclaimed soprano whose career has taken her to some of the world’s leading opera and concert stages, including The Metropolitan Opera, Carnegie Hall, Washington National Opera, and London’s Royal Albert Hall, as well as Broadway. Local audiences recently saw Alyson as Bess in Washington National Opera’s 2025 production of Porgy and Bess. Alyson began studying voice at Levine at age 12, building an early foundation that would support her continued studies and a professional career spanning more than two decades.
Looking back, Alyson credits the quality of her early training at Levine with giving her the tools to grow as a singer. “Every teacher I had after would always compliment my very early beginnings,” she recalls. “When I came to Oberlin and onward, they said, ‘It’s very clear that you had an excellent foundation with your teachers at Levine.’”
