Silver Spring String Orchestra

The Levine String Orchestra Program at Silver Spring provides students aged 8 – 15 with the opportunity to experience ensemble playing in a professional learning environment.?Students who have never picked up an instrument and those who have some experience will both have opportunities to learn and grow under the instruction of Levine’s talented faculty members.The program consists of four levels. Sinfonietta:?(Ages 8-13) Sinfonietta is a continuation of beginning group classes and/or private lessons. Rehearsals are focused on performance and the development of ensemble skills with a significant emphasis on the development of individual techniques relating to each instrument (violin, viola, cello, bass). In addition to full ensemble coaching, the orchestra will work in smaller groups for sectional time with expert faculty several times over the course of the year. Two concerts are presented each year.

Camerata:?(Ages 11-16) This ensemble is a continuation of the Sinfonietta Orchestra and focuses on further preparing repertoire for performance while developing ensemble skills. We’ll work together as a group in a collaborative approach with the director, Mr. Jonathan Jones. In addition to full ensemble coaching, we’ll also work in smaller groups for sectional time with expert faculty several times over the course of the year and continue to perfect individual techniques (violin, viola, cello, bass) while exploring basic music theory concepts and musicianship skills.
