Levine Junior Chamber Ensemble – DC Campus: NW

Ages 6 - 16

This unique chamber group class is modeled after the small string and wind bands of the Classical Era (the times of Bach, Handel, Haydn, and Mozart). The class is designed to help students develop their note reading and ensemble skills and helps young musicians prepare for participation in the Levine Chamber Orchestra. Open to strings, woodwinds, and brass students.

Course materials and music are determined by the instrumentation of the enrolled students. The ensemble studies a wide variety of musical styles from classical to jazz, prepares three concert programs throughout the year, and repeats each program in two performances. All participants in the Junior Chamber Ensemble class perform in all six concerts (see the dates below), give community performances, and participate in a conducting workshop.

Please note: An audition is required. Regular attendance is required.

All participants: At least one year of private lessons and the ability to read music is required.

String player requirements: Range of two octaves. Major scales up to two sharps and flats. Skills in vibrato and shifting are NOT required.

Wind player requirements: Range of an octave; major scales up to two sharps and flats.
