Levine Chamber Orchestra – NW

Ages 10 - 18

This is a traditional small chamber orchestra that offers the best of both worlds of ensemble playing: – the larger ensemble scale and repertoire typical for an orchestra, combined with the attention to each student’s progress in commanding musical detail, characteristic of small ensemble coaching.

Levine Chamber Orchestra accepts intermediate- and advanced-level string (Suzuki Strings end of Book Two and up or Traditional Strings equivalent), wind (Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon), brass (mostly trumpets and French horns), and percussion students. This is a wonderful opportunity for young musicians to learn and perform a wide variety of musical styles from classical to jazz while focusing on the development of high-level sight-reading and ensemble skills.

Course materials and music are determined by the instrumentation of the enrolled students. The orchestra prepares three concert programs throughout the year and repeats each program in two performances. All Levine Chamber Orchestra class participants perform in all six concerts (see the dates below), give outreach performances and participate in a conducting workshop.

Please note: An audition is required. Regular attendance is required.

String students must be able to shift. Wind students should be comfortable with an octave-and-a-half range. All students should be familiar with key signatures up to three sharps and flats.
