Education
Britton Riley earned a Bachelor of Music in Cello Performance and a Certificate in Music Industry from the University of Southern California. He went on to complete both a Master of Music and a Doctor of Musical Arts in Cello Performance at the University of Michigan. Additionally, Britton was selected as a Rebanks Fellow at The Royal Conservatory of Music, an advanced training program for emerging professional artists.
As a Performer
Britton maintains an active orchestral career and currently performs as a section cellist with the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington, DC, and as principal cellist of the Gateways Festival Orchestra, which performs in Chicago and New York. Previously, he served as assistant principal cellist of the Colorado Music Festival and the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, and performed as a section cellist with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. He has also appeared as a substitute cellist with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, bringing extensive experience to a wide range of orchestral settings.
As a Teacher
Britton is a dedicated educator who has taught and mentored emerging musicians through a variety of university, festival, and professional training programs. He served as a Teaching Assistant to renowned cellist Richard Aaron at the University of Michigan and has held faculty positions with the NSO Summer Music Institute, the NAAS New World Symphony Audition Intensive, the Sphinx Performance Academy, and the National Academy Orchestra of Canada. He has also been invited to serve as guest faculty at The Royal Conservatory of Music and the University of Toronto, where he has worked with students on cello performance, orchestral preparation, and professional development.
