Education
Chase earned a Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance from the University of Oklahoma before completing both a Master of Music and a Doctor of Musical Arts in Violin Performance at the University of Michigan. He is also a graduate of the Interlochen Arts Academy and has completed Suzuki teacher training through Units 1–4.
As a Performer
Chase enjoys an active performance career as an orchestral musician, chamber artist, and soloist. He is a regular substitute violinist with the Atlanta, St. Louis, and Detroit Symphony Orchestras, serves as a tenured first violinist with the Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music, and performs with the Lakes Area Music Festival in Minnesota. His previous orchestral appointments include the Ann Arbor, Flint, and Lansing Symphonies, and he has appeared as guest concertmaster with the Traverse City Philharmonic. As a chamber musician and soloist, Chase earned Second Prize at the 2018 Briggs Chamber Music Competition with the Saros Trio, won the University of Oklahoma Concerto Competition, and was a finalist in the Naftzger Young Artist Competition. His performances have been featured on Interlochen Public Radio, and he has recorded on two Grammy Award-nominated albums with the National Orchestral Institute Philharmonic and the JACK Quartet.
As a Teacher
Chase has extensive experience teaching students of all ages and abilities through private instruction, master classes, and youth music programs. He has served on the faculty of the Sphinx Organization’s Overture program and has coached orchestral sectionals and chamber music with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra’s Civic Youth Ensembles. Chase has also presented master classes at universities across the Midwest, including the University of Toledo and Miami University, helping young musicians develop both technical excellence and artistic confidence.

Chase joined the Levine strings faculty in 2026.
Teaching Philosophy
My teaching is rooted in the pedagogies of the Suzuki Method and of my own teachers: Karén Khanagov, Gregory Lee, Hal Grossman, Fabiola Kim, Caroline Coade, and David Halen. I provide a nurturing, individualized teaching approach that aims to equip each student with the life skills to strengthen their artistic and creative potential and execution. Key components of my studio teaching include singing solfège, movement and rhythm, ear training, music theory and notation, improvisation, public speaking, collaboration with other students and professionals, and audition and performance preparation.
I believe recognizing each student for their unique space in the world is key to providing them with individualized projects and opportunities that challenge and carry their artistry to the next level. Creating a safe space for students to express themselves allows trust, empathy, and understanding to flow freely between student and teacher, allowing students to connect with their inner artistic voice in the studio. It is my goal to help the student empower and amplify that voice so they become generous and confident in their abilities, using their voice as the foundation for their musicianship.
I expect commitment to our lessons from both the guardian(s) and student, supported by parental input, practice journals, mutually agreeable goals, and participation in performance opportunities. Consistent practice is a lifestyle that provides continuity between each private lesson. Participation in group classes and youth ensembles is the social and collaborative playground that further challenges and builds upon polished material, while also exposing students to new material they have the responsibility of mastering independently.
I believe the key to long-term success in and beyond the studio includes nurturing each student’s strengths while prioritizing opportunities to improve areas of musicianship that need more attention. As a trio of student, guardian, and teacher, we embark on the journey of lifelong learning together.
