50 Years of Memories: Selma Levine’s Legacy

As we continue celebrating Levine Music’s 50th Anniversary, we’re taking a moment to remember someone whose name has been at the heart of our school since the very beginning: Selma M. Levine.

A gifted pianist, accomplished attorney, and beloved friend, Selma was a remarkable woman whose passion for music and dedication to others left a lasting impression on those who knew her.

When Selma tragically passed in 1975, her friends sought a meaningful way to honor her memory. A year later, founders Ruth Cogen, Diana Engel, and Jaclin Marlin established a music school bearing her name, creating a place where her passion for music could continue to enrich the lives of others.

In this special anniversary video, Selma’s friends share their memories of her warmth, kindness, remarkable accomplishments, and deep appreciation for music. Reflecting on what Levine has become, one shares, “I have to believe that there’s a big smile on her face knowing that this place is here and thriving.”
