A Musical Tribute to 50 Years of Levine

Our 50th Anniversary Student Showcase Concert brought together students, faculty, families, and friends for an inspiring evening celebrating the artistry, creativity, and achievements of the Levine community.

A special highlight of the evening was the world premiere of New Canzona for the Fiftieth Year, a brass quintet commissioned in honor of Levine’s 50th anniversary. Composed by Levine faculty member and Chair of Music Theory and Composition Evan Meier, the work draws inspiration from the rich textures, syncopated rhythms, and ceremonial grandeur of the late Renaissance composer Giovanni Gabrieli while reimagining the canzona for contemporary audiences. Through its blend of historical influence and modern musical language, the piece honors Levine’s first fifty years and looks ahead to the future.
