Education

Benjamin holds a BM and MM in Guitar Performance from the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University, where he is currently a DMA candidate in Guitar Performance.

As a Performer

Distinguished as a finalist in multiple national competitions, Benjamin is known for his virtuosity and sensitive, colorful interpretations. A product of the esteemed Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University, Benjamin performs across the US. Deeply dedicated to musical craftsmanship, Benjamin shares a repertoire that seamlessly intertwines Classical- and Romantic-era masterpieces with the stunning body of work for classical guitar of the 20th Century. Noteworthy achievements include being honored as a Presser Scholar and receiving recognition through the Harry Randolph Prize and the James Winship Lewis Memorial Prize in Performance.

As a Teacher

Benjamin has taught privately and in community music schools across the DMV since 2018. In his role as a graduate assistant for the Peabody Institute of The Johns Hopkins University, he has also had the responsibility of coaching select undergraduate classical guitar students.

Teaching Philosophy

Benjamin prioritizes cultivating and supporting the individuality of each of his students as musicians, learners, and people. His philosophy in teaching centers on a conviction that musical study provides a unique opportunity for joyful engagement with learning. Benjamin carefully constructs lessons to help each student pursue their artistic curiosity while also giving them the strong musical and technical foundations that give his students fluency and confidence in their performance.

Favorite Aspect About Teaching at Levine

I am inspired by my fellow faculty members, by the staff, and by the students at Levine, who all come together in our deep and tenacious dedication to spreading the beauty of music. I love walking the halls and hearing everyone hard at work on their musical creations.
