As a Performer
Joey Clark is a musical theatre and cabaret performer, conductor, director, and teaching artist. His work has been seen on the stages of The McCarter Theatre (NJ), Syracuse Stage (NY), and many stages throughout the Minnesota Twin Cities metro. Joey’s cabaret work began at NYC’s Duplex Cabaret Bar, and he has since gone on to direct, music direct, and perform in over 100 cabarets.
As a Teacher
Joey taught and assisted in developing MacPhail Center for Music’s Music for Life Program specifically working with older adult populations and people living with dementia. In 2022, Joey became the leader of the St. Paul Giving Voice Chorus for persons living with Alzheimer’s and their care partners. He has produced senior cabarets through his partnerships with The History Theatre (MN) and the Minnesota JCC. With over 20 years of teaching artist experience, Joey has taught and directed students aged 3-106, serving as Musical Theatre Department Chair for Saint Paul Conservatory for Performing Artists (SPCPA) where he staged over 30 musical theatre productions and as an instructor at Children’s Theatre Company (MN) amongst many other artist training programs in the NYC tri-state area. He is thrilled to be a new resident of Washington, DC, and looks forward to creating art with students at Levine Music and Encore Creativity for Older Adults!
At Levine
Joey joined Levine’s faculty in 2024.
Having moved to D.C. in September of 2024, I immediately felt at home walking into Levine!
Teaching Philosophy
I like to listen to the stories of my students, to get to know what makes them tick, and to understand what inspires them. Then, my job is to take all of that and help them utilize their voice at its strongest potential while sprinkling in some healthy technique, a bit of inspiration, and a spark of joy. And maybe a few “jazz hands” when appropriate.
More About Joey
When not inspiring us all to sing, Joey enjoys spending time with his dog, dining out, cooking, being by the water, and exploring our incredible city.
