Education
Johnny Walker has a B.A. Cello Performance from University of Maryland Baltimore County, a Certificate of Participation from Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Band Director Academy, and is an Associate Member with the Suzuki Association of America. Johnny also completed the Suzuki Every Child Can! course and Suzuki units 1-4.
Performance and Teaching Experience
He has performed at the John F. Kennedy Center, NPR Tiny Desk Concerts, Carter Baron Amphitheater, Embassy of France, and the White House. Johnny has performed with a long list of prominent artists, including Yolanda Adams, Joshua Bell, Regina Belle, Jerald Daemyon, The Eagles, Robert Glasper, Derrick Hodge, Muni Long, Yo-Yo Ma, Rick Ross, Meshell Ndegeocello, Smokey Robinson, De la Soul, Bilal, Lalah Hathaway, Esperanza Spalding, Vanessa Williams, Usher, 2 Chainz, and Samara Joy. He currently plays principal cello with the Colour of Noize Orchestra and has previously held the principal cello role on tour with Jeezy and during two Jeezy residencies in Las Vegas. Johnny is also the cellist for Kontrolled Khaos.
On TV, Johnny performed on Peacock’s Paris & Nicole: The Encore.
Johnny was a Teaching Artist at Washington Performing Arts and a Cello instructor at Suitland High School Center for Visual and Performing Arts.
At Levine
Johnny joined the Levine faculty in November 2019, teaching cello lessons and the orchestra programs at THEARC.
Teaching Philosophy
I always want to know what each student would like to learn about the cello and on the cello. I feel it’s my job to guide my students in their own way to achieve their goals by challenging them to grow, learning about themselves, and working hard.
