Education

Mia received her B.M., M.M., and G.P.D. in Classical Guitar at Peabody Conservatory of Music of the Johns Hopkins University.

Performance and Teaching Experience

Mia has performed solo and with the Duo Amaral in Italy, Germany, France, Switzerland, Poland, Panama, Mexico, Israel, Cyprus, and the USA. Notable US performances include the Strathmore Mansion, the Renwick Gallery, and the Marlow Guitar Series. Mia has recorded two albums with her duo, Suplica, released in 2011, and Textura, released in 2013. She and her duo partner and husband, Jorge Amaral, are the artistic directors and organizers of the Baldwin Wallace International Guitar Festival, as well as the Montgomery College International Guitar Series.

Mia has taught master classes and workshops at guitar festivals in the US, Germany, Israel, Poland, and Panama. Her students have been finalists and winners of several national guitar competitions.

At Levine

Mia has been a member of the Levine faculty since 2010, and currently serves as the department’s chair.

Teaching Philosophy and Approach

“I love teaching students of all ages and skill levels. While I understand that every individual progresses at their own pace, I expect each of my students to reach their maximum potential. I am a very patient and enthusiastic teacher, yet at the same time very serious and demanding.”
