Teaching Philosophy
“My teaching philosophy is rooted in the belief that music education should extend beyond technical mastery to foster discovery, mentorship, and personal growth. I strive to create learning environments where students experience moments of realization that deepen both their musicianship and their self-confidence. Inspired early on by my father, who first encouraged me to teach at the age of nine, I have built my career around helping students connect with music in ways that are both challenging and transformative.
I emphasize communication, organization, and sincerity, drawing on the wisdom of mentors such as Dr. Peter Burkholder, who taught me the importance of meeting students where they are. Through my university teaching and my work leading A Cappella Camp, I have seen students develop as musicians, practitioners, researchers, and artists. My ultimate goal is to equip them with the skills and curiosity to become lifelong learners—capable of teaching themselves long after our time together.”
Favorite Aspect of Teaching at Levine
“My favorite aspect of being on faculty at Levine is the opportunity to contribute to a community I have admired since first connecting in 2012 through a Jimi Hendrix tribute. It is meaningful to return in this capacity and help further the institution’s mission.”
Outside of Levine
When he’s not teaching, Reginald enjoys playing tennis and plant-based cooking and baking.
