Introducing Frances and James McKay Hall

We’re delighted to share exciting news about the future of our DC Campus: NW.

Thanks to an extraordinary gift from longtime Levine faculty member Frances “Sis” McKay and her husband, James McKay, our basement-level performance space will be renovated and become Frances and James McKay Hall.

Sis McKay has been an important part of Levine’s history for decades. She founded our Composition Department and taught at Levine for 37 years, inspiring generations of students through her musicianship and dedication to music education. This generous gift reflects the McKays’ deep and lasting connection to Levine and their commitment to its future.

The gift will support significant improvements to the hall and the surrounding facilities, including renovations to the performance space and upgrades to essential building systems. Together, these improvements will provide an inspiring, state-of-the-art space for students, faculty, performers, and audiences for years to come.

We are deeply grateful to the McKays for their generosity and for choosing to make such a meaningful investment in Levine. We look forward to sharing updates about Frances and James McKay Hall as the renovation progresses.
