Exploring and Discovering Music

Ages 4 – 5

Get ready to sing, dance, and explore! This lively class invites young children to experience the magic of music through playful games, movement, and hands-on instrument fun. Each week, we’ll dive into songs and musical adventures that help kids build their sense of rhythm, match pitches, and sharpen their listening – all while having a blast.

Here’s what your child can look forward to:

  • Singing and pitch matching – solo singing and musical games that help kids build confidence and tune their ears.
  • Rhythm and beats – fun ways to explore steady beats, tempos, and rhythmic patterns using movement and percussion.
  • Instrument discovery – creative exploration and improvisation with Orff instruments (both pitched and unpitched) and a variety of other instruments and styles.
  • Teamwork and tunes – group dancing, playing, and storytelling that foster social skills and cooperation.
  • A growing songbook – kids will build a collection of simple songs and games to enjoy beyond class time.

Community Time:
Each session includes 45 minutes of music fun, followed by 15 minutes of Community Time — a chance to chat with our expert teachers, ask questions, connect with other families, and let the kids enjoy some unstructured social time.

This drop-off class is designed for children ages 4–5 (as of September 2026) and takes place without a caregiver present.

Prerequisite: A 4-year-old may enroll in this class only if they have previously taken Round We Go or Adventures in Music as a 3-year-old. To enroll an eligible 4-year-old, please call 202-686-8000 ext. 0 to enroll. This is not required for 5-year-olds.
