Levine Jazz Band

Join Levine’s premier teen jazz ensemble and experience the excitement of performing in a dynamic big band setting. Open to middle and high school instrumentalists, the Levine Jazz Band is the perfect place to develop ensemble skills, grow as improvisers, and perform classic and contemporary jazz repertoire.

Under the direction of educator and performer Kelton Norris, we’ll rehearse weekly while building confidence, stylistic awareness, section playing, rhythm, phrasing, and musical communication skills. Rehearsals emphasize teamwork, artistry, and how to succeed in a jazz ensemble.

We’ll cover music from the rich tradition of jazz band literature while exploring improvisation, interpretation, and performance practice in a supportive and challenging environment.

This ensemble is ideal for motivated middle and high school musicians with prior experience on their instrument who are ready to grow through group performance. Auditions are required for new students.

Each semester culminates in a featured performance opportunity at Levine’s Contemporary Program Showcase.
