About the Artists

Kathleen Jacobi, flute

Kathleen Jacobi is a member of the flute faculty at Levine Music. Kathleen began playing the flute at age six under the tutelage of Nancy Toone. As she grew older, she competed in national competitions, such as the MTNA, played in the Utah Youth Symphony, and spent her summers attending flute and chamber music workshops. After graduating from high school, she received a Bachelor of Music degree from the Manhattan School of Music, studying with Linda Chesis, and her Master of Music degree from the University of Southern California, studying with Jim Walker. She has played under the baton of conductors including JoAnn Falletta, Gerard Schwartz, and James Conlon, and performed in the Walt Disney Concert Hall with her woodwind quintet Sound of 5.

Heidi Schuller, flute

Flutist and educator Heidi Schuller teaches Suzuki and traditional students as a member of the Levine Music flute faculty. She frequently presents on music topics, including works by French women composers and digital resources at the Mid-Atlantic Flute Conventions, 2021 Lightning talk at the National Flute Convention, and has authored multiple articles for “Flute Talk” magazine.  Her research, “An Inspiring Collaboration: Undine Smith Moore and Antoinette Handy,” about the Afro-American Suite, was presented at the 2022 Mid-Atlantic Flute Convention. She has performed with flute choirs at numerous National Flute Conventions and is a member of the Virginia Grand Military Band, an ensemble presenting traditional Sousa-style concerts.

Dana Smith, piano

Dana Smith is a member of the Suzuki piano faculty at Levine Music and a chamber musician currently working in the DC metro area. Growing up overseas, Dana began her piano study with her mother and continued at Woodstock School in India. She later earned her M.M. in Keyboard Collaborative Arts from the University of Southern California. She has performed with many different choirs, ensembles, and soloists in India, Belgium, Bahrain, Canada, and in the US, and enjoys promoting works by women composers. She also maintains a private studio online and in Maryland.

Johnny Walker, cello

Johnny Walker is a member of the cello faculty at Levine Music. Johnny has a B.A. Cello Performance from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, a Certificate of Participation from Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Band Director Academy, and is an Associate Member with the Suzuki Association of America. He has performed at the John F. Kennedy Center, NPR Tiny Desk Concert, Carter Baron Amphitheater, Embassy of France, and White House. Previously, Johnny was a Teaching Artist at Washington Performing Arts and a Cello instructor at Suitland High School Center for Visual and Performing Arts.
