Sometimes musical history is made as a result of the most unlikely of coincidences. In the spring of 1913, an impoverished Gustav Holst traveled to Majorca, Spain and discovered the world of astronomy. The result of this encounter is the birth of what became the “sound of space.” Holst created certain musical effects, harmonies and colors which we now immediately associate with outer space. Performed by PULSE ensemble with guest percussionist, and Levine faculty artist Andrew Hare.
